Some parts of a male hostel at the Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, was on Wednesday gutted by fire.

The institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Aliero on Wednesday, that five rooms were burnt in the incident.

Prof. Zuru, however, said nobody died and no one was injured during the inferno.

He said the 50 students affected by the disaster would be relocated to other hostels, while the destroyed section would be rehabilitated after verification of the extent of damage.

He praised the students who succeeded in putting out the fire, adding that “a committee would investigate the cause of the fire, extent of damage and cost of rehabilitating the structure”.

The Commissioner for Science and Technical Education, Alhaji Ruwa Dakingari, who led top officials of the ministry to inspect the damage, said the government would design measures that would prevent further outbreak of fire in the state’s higher institutions.

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Ambrose Aisabor, yesterday, paraded  a female student of the College of Technology, Offa, Miss Mary Awolola, alleged to be a cultist, for allegedly luring her friend to be gang-raped by five of her cult members.

Mary confessed at the Police headquarters in Ilorin that she was also gang-raped much earlier by four boys before she was initiated into the cult group.

She said she lured her friend to be raped by her cultist friends because she refused to join them in spite of the pressure mounted on her.

Mary also said she regretted her action having been arrested by the Police and more importantly that she was not gaining anything from the cult activities.

She said:“I did not gain anything from cultism. I regret all my actions.”

Ever Wondered Why "Maths Set" Does Not Last With Students?

Just sat down in my room, jobless, then taking a look at my secondary school life. I now remembered, why exactly does Mathematical set not last at the hands of students, I was beginning to think the makers use juju because no matter how had you try, it would misplace bit by bit....compass to protractor to that triangle shaped thing.... One thing is sure, divider goes first. This made me remember my classmate in junior secondary school, who boasted, he swill use the maths set till end of third term, then we just resumed 2nd term. We just kept shut. By mid term, it was still complete which gave him more audacity to boast, as usual we kept mute, but believe me, that maths didn't finish that term nor start the 3rd term.

This makes me wonder, why is it so....does anybody have explanation?

The World Bank has designated 10 Nigerian Universities as African Centres of Excellence for outstanding  research programmes in key areas while each of the centres is to receive a total grant of N12.8billion to run approved research projects between 2014 and 2017.

According to him, for any meaningful development or progress, there must be a fundamental marriage between research institutions and industries, adding that the linkage in this regard propelled the development and success story of the Asian Tiger. Continue....

2 killed over N1000 in Abia

                               http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/50/Abia_state_tower.jpg
It's crazy how we allow little things to take great part of our lives and mind. For a N1000, two promising young men went 6 feet down the ground. How tragic?

Vanguard News reported that last weekend, at Obegu Autonomous Community in Ugwunagbo Local Government Area of Abia State when two youths, Nkwachukwu Onyeukwu and Eze Kafor, lost their lives over N1000. Nkwachukwu Onyeukwu, a.k.a One Thousand, was the son to the village head of the community and village youth leader, while Eze Kafor , a.k.a Senator,  was a prominent youth in the community.

A reliable eyewitness told Vanguard that the duo died while struggling for N1,000 commission meant for the youths from the proceeds of palm fruit sales in the community.
The buyer of the community palm fruit, from Cross River State, whose name could not be identified at press time, was supposed to have settled the youths with the said sum of N1,000 but was only able to provide N300.

While Nkwachukwu, the youth leader, appealed to Eze to allow the buyer to go and pay the balance later, Eze  refused and a scuffle ensued during which Eze collected the palm fruit buyer’s knife and fatally struck Nkwachukwu.

Angry youths of the community on hearing the sad  news, trooped to Eze’s residence, bundled him into his house, set it ablaze and watched him die inside it.

6 Things You Should Be Doing In School To Aid Your Post-school Job Search

Job Search Tips

If you don’t plan to look for job after school, this post is not for you. But if you do – and 99% of Nigerians students do – here is my humble advice to you.

1, Study hard to make good grade: People will tell you that class of degree does not matter, that Wole Soyinka had a third (which is a lie), that they have one uncle somewhere who is rich but did not go to school. Well, God help them. While I will not dispute the fact the grade you finished with may not determine your eventual level in life, the truth is, more often than not, it does. So why not go for the best. Most good jobs ask for First Class or Second Class Upper. Don’t put yourself in tight corner after school. These grades make your job search relatively easier, at least they get you invite for tests, now left for you to take it from there with your knowledge and ability.

2, Be versatile: Don’t be a student that does no more than moving from hostel to class, and back, everyday throughout your university days. Attending higher institution goes beyond the direct learning from classroom, it is an environment to expand your horizon, maximize the opportunity. All those interactions, those arguments in newspapers stands in front of SUB, those debates in the room, are indirect learning. I was a computer-illiterate when I gained admission into university 13 years ago, but through playing with my room mate’s PC (before I later bought my own, thanks to Chevron Scholarship windfall) and asking questions, I was able to learn the basics of computer use. This is just an example. Today, even a primary school pupil knows how to use system. But you can still some things from your room that has some software skill or just any other beneficial knowledge. Versatility aids your job hunting effort. See other tips after the cut...

Full story on the cult activities in Nsukka: killed a first year student, driver, one other

                                       cult war in Delta
Two rival cult groups in the University Town of Nsuka, Enugu State, Vikings and Black Axe, in what looks like a reappraisal attack, clashed and killed three people including a first year student of University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, a driver attached to Enugu State Transport Company, ENTRACO and one other notorious cult member.

Crime Alert gathered that the rival cult groups have been on the neck of one another for several years, maiming and hacking each other to death in the slightest simmering differences. Sources said last Monday at Achara road in Nsukka Urban, one Ndubuisi Eze (aka Tafa) was shot dead by an unidentified cult group, his head was cut off and laid behind his lifeless body. 5 Questions to Ask Before Dating

The most important person to know in your life is yourself. Yet so many people spend the majority of their time reacting to what’s going on around them. Before they know it, each new day has turned into a Xerox copy of the previous one. Dating is a prime area that demonstrates this repetitive, redundant behavior; we too often rush into a new situation without considering what we want and need to be happy.

They say the heart wants what it wants, but we can be swayed by the conscious mind and exterior world into believing someone is right for us when they really aren’t. Since we’ve just begun a new year, let’s address our dating goals like a good investigative reporter and ask a few basic questions before hopping back on the dating merry-go-round. And of course, we’ll approach it Guy’s Guy style so everyone can win. Read more after the cut...

We Got Pregnant! Should We Get Married?

                             Pregnancy-Tests-Early-Signs-2
So much has changed in the past decade or so regarding marriage and childbirth. In years past, it was frowned upon to have a baby out of wedlock; and now, that stigma has lifted considerably. According to a 2011 study done by the National Center for Health Statistics, the birth rate for unmarried women was 46 out of every 1000 births, and the total percent of all births to unmarried women was 40.7%.

Why Are People Waiting to Marry After Baby?
There are many reasons why people are waiting to get hitched nowadays. Some common reasons are:
They have seen their own parents’ marriage fail and don’t want to make the same mistake. Women have elevated their socioeconomic status in the workforce. It is taking longer to finish an education and secure employment. The stigma of being unwed has diminished considerably.
