Herbalists back ASUU as Students kick

Students have called on the Academic Staff Union of Universities not to betray them in the on-going strike. They said they would not like a situation when the strike would be called off without achieving anything.
This came as herbalists in Oyo State pledged their support for ASUU.
According to the President of the herbalists in the state, Dr. Arunoyemi Asanlaye, “we are in support of ASUU on the on-going strike”.
The students in large number at a town hall meeting, tagged, Save Public Education Campaign, which was organised by ASUU, UI chapter at the Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan Monday showed their displeasure at the seeming docility and indifference of the Nigeria Labour Congress calling on the labour union to embark on solidarity strike to force government to respond to ASUU demands.
Dr. Olusegun Ajiboye, Chairman, ASUU UI chapter, said the union would use any method to actualize their demands clarified that the struggle was not about the salaries of lecturers but the funding of education in the country.
Ajiboye said, “We are using so many methods. We cannot tell you when to move to Bodija Market. That is part of our strategies.
Instead of begging ASUU, the government should declare a state of emergency in the education sector”.
Responding to the call by the students, Mr. Bashir Olanrewaju, NLC Chairman in Oyo State, said, “By Wednesday, we will come out with a more proactive stance on the strike. Though, students have called on us to go on strike, we will not go on strike now. We will only mediate. If an affiliate has a problem, joining it in strike will collapse the whole system.
We have never been docile about the incident”.
Prof. Remi Raji, lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ibadan, said, ”Government should look at the NEEDS Assessment report. It is almost a year now that the 169 recommendations had been made and nothing has been done.
Salary of lecturers is just one of the nine demands of ASUU”.

ASUU Rejects FG Fresh N600b Offer, Insists Strike Must Continue

University teachers remained adamant last night, saying their strike would go on, despite the government’s shifting of its position. The strike has been on for four months.

More cash has been pledged for projects on the campuses. Besides, the earned allowances due to the teachers have been increased from the initial N30 billion offer, which the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) rejected. The teachers are insisting on the 2009 agreement, which they say President Goodluck Jonathan was part of. Besides, they say, they do not trust the government.

Dear Nigerian Students, it is Time For Battle By Abdulrahman Abdulraheem

A background is required, and one short sentence will do: you have been at home for more than three months.

Why do you think this is the case? I will tell you why; it is because you are not a variable anyone has considered seriously in this stalemate; because you have gone to sleep. There is no question that the federal government is not treating this ASUU(Academic staff Union of Universities) strike matter with urgency, at least not the same urgency with which it seems to be attempting to solve the crisis in the ruling Peoples’ Democratic party. On the flip side of the coin, ASUU seems to have begun to enjoy the strike as we are confronted with statements of ASUU officials to the effect that ASUU is ‘not interested’ in dialogue.

Now that the problem has been laid out, what is the solution?

The twenty one year old Ifunanya battles to regain her place in the Gulder Ultimate Search season 10. On the 13th day in the jungle, Ifunanya goes head to head with Mary, one of the twins in the opposing tribe due to their poor performance in The Octave task.

The Octave task was designed to test the warriors’ ability to focus their energy, action, feelings and mind into the moment and activity at hand. In the first phase the warriors would take turns to lower themselves into the river with the aid of a rope, flow with the current to a piece of puzzle hooked to a rope tied across the river, unhook the puzzle and hook it anywhere on their body. They would then hoist themselves to shore with the aid of the rope and then drop the puzzle on a mat beside the Anchor. The tribe warrior that spends the lengthiest time performing the tasks will have to go into the second phase against the other tribe’s least performing warrior. In the second phase, the weakest links from each tribe would fix the pieces of the Octave puzzle and the first warrior to solve the puzzle in 30 minutes wins.

After 30 minutes of mental combat between the two warriors and no winner merged, Chidi Mokeme, the Anchor man decides to help them by putting three pieces of the puzzle in the right places. At the end of an additional 20 minutes, Ifunanya emerged victorious leaving Mary evicted from GUS season 10. The lioness continues the search for The 10th Symbol.

Happy Eid ul Adha To Lions And Lioness

Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar!
Although only the pilgrims in Makkah can participate in the Hajj fully, all the other Muslims in the world join with them by celebrating the Eid ul Adha [eed ul ud-ha], or Festival of Sacrifice. On the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, Muslims around the world wear their nicest clothing and attend a special prayer gathering in the morning. This is followed by a short sermon, after which everyone stands up to hug and greet one another. The traditional Eid greeting is "Eid Mubarak," which means "Holiday Blessings." Next, people visit each other's homes and partake in festive meals with special dishes, beverages, and desserts. Children receive gifts and sweets on this joyous occasion.

In addition, like the pilgrims in Makkah, those Muslims who can afford to do so offer domestic animals, usually sheep, as a symbol of Abraham's sacrifice. The meat is distributed for consumption to family, friends, and to the poor and needy.

The Eid ul-Adha is a major religious event in the lives of Muslims. Usually, communities celebrate this occasion over a period of several days.

Happy Eid ul Adha...
