My Igbo Unversity

 Learn Igbo Fig 13

The Gregory University, Uturu (GUU), Abia, said on Saturday that the university would soon introduce the Igbo language as a compulsory course in the second year. This was made known by the Director of the University,Prof. Ihechukwu Madubuike, at Uturu during the 6th edition of the Igbo (Uturu) Cultural Carnival, which held at the university.

“By the next two years, the university plans to introduce the Igbo language as a compulsory subject for all students in the second year. Whether you are Yoruba, Hausa or Efik, you must take Igbo as a compulsory subject, in spite of your area of specialisation,’’ he said.

What if the University of Nigeria, Nsukka decides to follow their footstep and incorporates the Igbo language into the school's syllables making it compulsory for every student of the institution.  Well, for me I won't have any problem with it, so far it s a second year course. Will you? Leave a comment lets know your thoughts.

Relationship Advice

By Isaac  Izontimi
Love has many moods. It can be full of passion and intense feelings or it can also mean pain and sacrifices. Love can make you jealous and mean at times; encourage you to achieve greater heights in life and so on and so forth. But other very important moods of love are also humor and fun. Without fun, love stories can get dull and boring and boring relationships leads to to frustrations and finally break-ups.
Hence, it is important that you leave some scope of fun and excitement in your love affairs. Doing crazy things in love will help in keeping the chemistry between  you and your loved one alive.

Is It Time to Walk Away?

                    images (16)
We live in a culture that promotes persistence. Phrases like “Winners never quit, and quitters never win” dominate our public discussion. So, is that true? Should you really continue to pour effort into situations, even when they seem hopeless? Should you stay in a relationship, just because it has gone on for a long time? Should you hold onto your job, just because of the amount of time you have been in it already?

Economists call the amount of time, money and effort that you have put into something in the past a “sunk cost”. That is, the time, money and effort is gone and you can’t get it back. So, economists argue that you should make decisions about whether to continue with something based only on whether a continued investment would lead to success and not based on the past.

Here’s a simple example. Imagine you hear about a great play at a local theater. You stand on line at the box office for an hour and pay a lot of money for good seats. You get to the show and the first act is horrible. The script is dull. The actors are lifeless. The jokes fall flat. Should you leave the show at intermission?

Many people will decide to stay to see the second act. They feel like if they leave at intermission, they will have wasted the time and money they spent.

But imagine that you were at the same play, only the tickets had been given to you the day before by a friend who had a conflict with the date and couldn’t go. Now you have less invested in staying, and you feel much more willing to leave.

The key idea is that if you would be willing to leave the play if you hadn’t paid any money or put any time into getting the tickets, then you should also leave even if you waited on line and paid a lot. The time and money that you put into getting the tickets is gone. You can’t get them back. So, why compound the problem by spending even more time there?

The economists may very well be right. University of Michigan psychologist Richard Nisbett, Ph.D. and his colleagues studied the behavior of college professors. He asked them lots of questions about their willingness to stop failing research projects after they had been working on those projects for a long time. The ones who stuck with long-term projects because of the past investment of time and effort were less successful than the ones who were willing to give up on research projects that were not going well.

The quitters were actually winning.

What does this mean for you?

UNN Alumni Petition Jonathan Over Pro-Chancellor’s Removal

The University of Nigeria Alumni Association, UNAA, has petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan, over the suspension of Chairman of the Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Emeka Enejere, from office, asking him to institute a full scale investigation into the activities of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bartho Okolo.

                         President Goodluck Jonathan

Appeal to Jonathan
The association, in the petition signed by the National President, Mr. Andrew Oru, also appealed to President Jonathan to order the immediate reinstatement of Dr. Enejere as Pro-Chancellor of the university.
Oru recalled a plethora of cases where the vice chancellor awarded contracts for projects in the university without recourse to due process.

He said most of the contracts awarded by the VC had yet to be completed, despite the fact that almost one hundred percent payment had been made to the contractors.
In one instance, he said though N46.703 million had been paid for construction of the proposed Umunkara Street (University Secondary School Road, Nsukka, out of the N49.161 million for the project, the job was yet to be completed six months after it was to have been delivered in four weeks.

Minister accused
He accused the Supervising Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, of replacing the Pro-Chancellor with his own lawyer in Rivers State, Mr. Emmanuel Akara, SAN.

Oru alleged that the Pro-Chancellor’s problem arose out of the report submitted to the Supervising Minister of Education by the university’s Governing Council which indicted the Vice Chancellor of monumental corruption and profligacy. Read content of the petition after the cut...

Recipe – Sweet Potato Pie: Keeps Them Coming Home for the Holidays

timthumb
I thought I should share this recipe. Just in case you are still trying to find a great side dish for Christmas dinner or something interesting to bring to the family gathering, you should try this.

Ingredients:
6 medium sweet potatoes
1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 eggs
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust (small not the deep dish version)
Optional (mix 1 1/2 cups of pecans with 1 Tbsp butter and 2 Tbs brown sugar and microwave for 1 minute). Add to top of pie before baking.

Directions:
Boil sweet potato whole in skin for 40 minutes, or until done. Run cold water over the sweet potato, and remove the skin. Scoop potato into your mixing bowl.
Add butter, and mix well with mixer. Stir in sugar, milk, eggs, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla. Beat on medium speed until mixture is smooth. Pour filling into an unbaked pie crust. Add pecan mixture to top of pie.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 45 to 50 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Pie will puff up like a souffle, and then will sink down as it cools.
Remember, this is the dish that keeps them coming home for the Holidays. Enjoy!
Have a Blessed and Healthy Christmas.

Avoiding This One Important Thing May Save You From Hurting Yourself

Most people catch themselves frequently falling into the ever-alluring yet emotionally-dangerous trap of comparing themselves to others.

Web

According to social comparison theory, we do this in an attempt to make accurate evaluations of ourselves. But at what cost? While comparison can be a valuable source of motivation and growth, it can also spin us into a tail-chasing frenzy of self-doubt.
Here are three reasons why you should stop comparing yourself to others.

Breaking News: Mbanefo Boys Hostel In UNN Now Femal Hostel

Information reaching me yesterday by some students of the University, said that  boys hostel (Mbanefo) beside the female hostel (Nkuruma) is now been turned to a female hostel. This is due to  fact that the school is no longer giving out Zik's flat because its too old.

Inquiring weather a new hostel provision would be made for the boys but No! Seems like the school is trying to drive the boys to stay off campus and guess what? More of those stuffs your dad and mummy do on bed, in the dark *winks*

Well not 100% positive about the authenticity of this information, so please if you do have any information regarding this issue, do leave a comment. Season greetings to you all...

UNN staff vow not to resume over Enejere’s removal

All categories of staff including lecturers, professors, senior and junior non-academic staff of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, have resolved not to re-open the institution, despite the resolution of the six-month old crises between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, until the government recalled the former pro-chancellor of the university, Dr Emeka Enejere.

Enejere was said to have been sacked by the Federal Government for allegedly being ‘’a friend’’ of the Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, and replaced with counsel to the six lawmakers opposed to Amaechi, Mr. Emmanuel Ukala, SAN.

Enejere sacked over Amaechi
Hints that Enejere was sacked for purportedly being close to Amaechi was given by Professor Okolo when some leaders of Nsukka zone visited his office over the crises in the university, weekend.
Apart from being counsel for the anti-Amaechi legislators, the Supervisory Minister of Education, Mr. Nyesom Nwike, also reportedly practised from Ukala’s law chambers after graduation from school.

The governing council, headed by Enejere, had been embroiled in crises with the vice chancellor of the UNN, Prof Bartho Okolo, over alleged misapplication of about N3 billion when Enejere was fired.

Issues raised
Among the issues raised by the council included the appointment of two female ad-hoc staff on yearly salaries of N28,051, 200 and N6 million respectively, without recourse to employment procedures.
Mrs. Christiana Oriola was emloyed as ICT Director on a monthly salary of N2,337,600 while Miss Chioma Onyenwe was receiving N500,000 monthly as the Alumni Co-ordinator.

Enejere was on his way to the council meeting where Okolo was to be suspended from duty following his alleged indictment by a committee set up by the council to probe some of the multi-million Naira contracts he allegedly awarded without due process, when he was informed of his removal on the telephone, an action which has led to daily ‘’mass prayers’’ or demonstrations by both academic and non-academic staff of the two campuses of the university since then.
