NUGA Games: OAU Set To Dazzle With Modern Facilities

                            OAU-Tracks-2-new
Athletes and officials participating in the 24th edition of the Nigeria Universities Games (NUGA) will be pampered with the state-of-art of the facilities in the event that will run from February 12-22 in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

The Games the flagship of sports competition amongst the nation’s universities suffered a series of set backs last year due to industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities. However,  according to Obafemi Awolowo University spokesman, Abiodun Olarewaju, the NUGA games are good to go.  He added that the OAU  invested heavily in its sports complex with the aim of hosting a modern NUGA games and also offer athletes the chance to excel in their events.

“We have a culture of excellence which reflects in everything about Obafemi Awolowo University. We are ready to host the best games ever. The Myrtha Olympic-size swimming pool is the latest technology and has been duly certified by the International Swimming body (FINA).

The athletics tracks are also a pride to sports in Nigeria. We are looking forward to having the contingents and  the athletes to come and have a feel of what we have.
The beauty of the whole thing is that all the facilities for the games are within the complex. We also have accommodation for the expected athletes and officials within the university community,” said Mr. Olarewaju.
He added that OAU with a track record in excellence was very proud that the facilities installed by Vast International Company, met the standards of international sports bodies, including IAAF and FINA.

Vast International Company boss, Mr. Obiora Okoye, said the facilities will put OAU on the map of universities with the best sports facilities not only in Nigeria, but also in West African sub-region.
“The Myrtha swimming pool is the most advanced technology in pools construction. Myrtha in partnership with FINA installed the swimming pools for all the major world championships, including the 2012 London Olympic Games and the 2013 World Swimming Championships in Barcelona Spain. It is the same quality and FINA specification that we have in OAU.

“The track is the first IAAF to be certified in the whole of the South-west and one of the only four of such in the country. The others are the Abuja National Stadium, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium and the U.J.Esuene Stadium in Calabar. Except the Abuja stadium, the rest were constructed by Vast International Company. I think the facilities will be veritable reference for sports in the country,” Obiora stated.

Another Student Without JAMB Result Gains Admission For Medicine At UNN

Last week, we pointed out that a particular candidate, by name, Miss. Enemuoh Blessing, Female, with JAMB registration Number:39068150GI was offered admission into a professional course in Medicine and Surgery in the just published 3rd supplementary List of the University which can be VIEWED HERE.

That’s not the last of it. Today, again would love to revealed that another candidate, by name, Mr. CHIGBO CHIBUIKE RICHARD, Male, with JAMB registration Number:39122764FJ was offered admission into a professional course in Medicine and Surgery in the University‘s 2nd supplementary List released here

In the same List, a candidate, Miss. ILOHA IFUNANYA UZOMA was admitted to the same course, with only 199 Marks.

As could be seen clearly in the admission slip for Mr. CHIGBO CHIBUIKE RICHARD, it displays, “Mode Of Entry- 1″, representing, “UTME“, but what I don’t understand is that, how can a candidate without a JAMB UTME result, gain admission through the same UTME??

Emm.... Please would love to learn this new pattern. LOL...

UNN Crisis: CLO Asks EFCC To Probe VC Okolo

The crisis rocking the University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, took a new turn yesterday as the Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO, petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, asking it to investigate allegation of embezzlement and corruption against the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bartho Okolo.

CLO in a petition signed by its Zonal Coordinator (South East), Mr. Olu Omotayo, and addressed to the commission yesterday in Enugu, accused the vice chancellor of awarding contracts through non-existent companies.

CLO listed five of the non-existent companies to include Enwerem and Sons Enterprises,  Ottamo Trading Company, Ozetech Metal Construction, Noble Tech Aluminium Industry and Chronicle Computers and Communications.

The petition read:  “It is unheard of  anywhere in the world that a vice chancellor of a university will award contracts running into billions of naira to non-existence companies.
“Our findings at the Corporate Affairs Commission, CAC, shows that these five companies are not registered companies in Nigeria. They are non-existent and are mere phantom companies.”

Calling on the EFCC to urgently investigate the Vice Chancellor, CLO said that; “It is our belief that the commission will not shy away from its responsibility and ensure that justice is done in respect of this matter.
“ We demand an urgent and thorough investigation and urge the commission to leave no stone unturned to ensure that justice is done in respect of this matter as the circumstance of this case demands,” the CLO added.

How Would You Like To Be Remembered?

About a hundred years ago, a man looked at the morning newspaper and to his surprise and horror, read his name in the obituary column. The news papers had reported the death of the wrong person by mistake. His first response was shock. Am I here or there? When he regained his composure, his second thought was to find out what people had said about him. The obituary read, "Dynamite King Dies." And also "He was the merchant of death." This man was the inventor of dynamite and when he read the words "merchant of death," he asked himself a question, "Is this how I am going to be remembered?" He got in touch with his feelings and decided that this was not the way he wanted to be remembered. From that day on, he started working toward peace. His name was Alfred Nobel and he is remembered today by the great Nobel Prize.

Just as Alfred Nobel got in touch with his feelings and redefined his values, we should step back and do the same.
*What is your legacy?
*How would you like to be remembered?
*Will you be spoken well of?
*Will you be remembered with love and respect?
*Will you be missed?
