A Federal Polytechnic has been approved to take off academic activities in Akwa Ibom state by the federal government. The polytechnic which is sited at Essien Udium LGA of Akwa Ibom State will be called Federal Polytechnic, Ukana.
The Akwa Ibom state governor, Godswill
Akpabio, happily announced the new development while receiving the
approval letter for the polytechnic from the Federal Ministry of
Education. Akpabio disclosed that the federal
government had also approved the sum of N1 billion as take-off
grant from the Education Trust Fund for the polytechnic billed to
commence academic activities in September this year.
The governor also stated that the state
government is going to rehabilitate the existing Independence High
School in Ukana as a temporary site for the school. The institution got the first set of
administrative staff as Prof. Balama Joseph Mbomanu was appointed as
Rector, Mr. Chrysanctus Asuka, Registrar, Sunday A. Okpo, Bursar while
Dr. Emem Udofia is the Librarian.
