The name change of the University of
Lagos, UNILAG to Moshood Abiola University Lagos, MAULAG which has been
generating alot of controversy around the university and beyond has
gotten a huge support.
The support is from the former military
head of state, General Yakubu Gowon who was at the university for the
2012/2013 session convocation ceremonies. Gen. Gowon assured the students that nobody can change the name of the institution as the name will remain UNILAG. Continue...
He also used the opportunity to advise
the graduates to start something for themselves no matter how small as
the situation in the country is not conducive for a graduate to remain
idle after graduation. It will be recalled that the UNILAG to
MAULAG name change attracted criticism and litigation from many
stakeholders before a court declared the President’s action as an
illegality.
The university’s Chairman, Governing
Council, Prof. Jerry Gana, during his inauguration in 2013, also said
that the President had reversed the name change.
Goodnews for UNILAG students.
