The
Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, Federal University of
Technology, Owerri FUTO Branch has expressed its solidarity with the
University Management in its battle against the unscrupulous activities
of some indigenes of host communities on encroachment on FUTO land.
Speaking
during a solidarity visit to the Vice-Chancellor, the Vice Chairman of
ASUU, Engr Dr K. N. Nwaigwe frowned at the crisis caused by the
indigenes of host community which led to destruction of University
properties worth millions of naira as well as buildings under
construction at the new FUTO Staff Quarters.
In his response, the Vice Chancellor,
Prof Chigozie C. Asiabaka thanked the Union for their solidarity visit,
stressing that their support was encouraging in the fight against
encroachment on the University’s land. He lamented the wanton destruction of
University Properties by indigenes of Umuanunu village, Obinze and
Umuchima village, Ihiagwa communities.
