LASU Students Reject School Fees Reduction By Governor Fashola

           

Lagos state University students have rejected Governor Fashola's proposed 34% and 60% across the different faculties and courses reduction in school fees.

At a press conference held yesterday June 12th in Ogba, the President of LASU Student Union Government, Nurudeen Yusuf, said the state government should spell out the proposed new fees in Naira and Kobo rather than this percentage as their parents who are responsible for the payments do not know how to calculate in percentage.

"We do not accept the 34 to 60% reduction of the government because in 2011 when the fees were increased, it was not done on percentage level; rather, they made the pronouncement in Naira and Kobo. We urge the government to come out in words as to how much will be paid by our students in Naira and Kobo and not in percentage. How do they expect our parents, the market women scrambling to pay our fees, to calculate the percentage? The government is only trying to play games with our future. We question their sincerity on this matter because the pronouncement of the fee was as a result of a visitation panel set up by the government of which the report was selectively adopted" Yusuf said

KWASU Best Graduate Reveals Secret Of Success

                               

The Kwara State University(KWASU), Metele convocation held last week produced two first class students. One of them, Comfort Yemi Folorunsho was the best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.62/4.0.

Folorunsho, who is a graduate of Animal Production said that she loves agriculture with passion and graduating with First Class degree is a dream come true for her. “I encountered so many challenges. Sometimes you have to read throughout the night. You will see others playing while you would be reading because you know what you want to achieve. So you just try as much as possible to concentrate on what you are doing. You won’t look at side attractions, you won’t look at what people say because you know what you are doing. You just try to concentrate”, she narrated.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’Allah, said the two first class graduates would be made fellows of the university’s Resident Life Fellows programme under which they would work as staff of the university during the one-year mandatory service where they would engage in academic projects in their respective departments. While he advised the graduating students to explore the entrepreneurship skills learnt in the university to be self-employed.

NANS Protest OAU School Fees Hike

                                                 

Seems its the era of protesting school fees hike by several institutuion. From LASU to UNIPORT and now OAU. Well, just hoping that UNN just the train. Don't know about you guys but am fed up of paying such outrageous  fees.

TASUED Students Protest Against School Management

                                         

The students of Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State embarked on a violent protest against the school management. The students were protesting the school management’s decision to prevent those that have not paid their school fees from sitting for the on-going 2013/2014 first semester examination.

It was a free for all as the students destroyed lecturers cars and other properties within the school premises as well as attacking the school security and journalists around. When contacted, the Vice-Chancellor of TASUED, Prof. Oluyemisi Obilade said that the protest was caused by the Student Union Leaders whom she blamed for being unreasonable and ignorant to the laws of the institution.Continue...

NYSC Member To Die By Hanging For Robbery

                                     

A member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who served at the Comprehensive Secondary School, Ukpom in Ikono LGA, Akwa Ibom State have been sentenced to death by the supreme court. The Corper by the name, Udeh Kingsely Emeka, was earlier in 2011 sentenced to death by the court of appeal for an armed robbery crime he committed in 2004. 

He took his case to the supreme court which upheld the judgement of the appeal court and said the accused will die by hanging. The judgement was delivered by the supreme court of Nigeria in Abuja on Friday 6th June, 2014 before their lordships, Walter Samuel Nkanu Onnoghen JSC, JOHN AFOLABI FABIYI JSC, SULElMAN GALADIMA JSC, BODE RHODES-VIVOUR JSC, JOHN INYANG OKORO.

The NYSC member was said to have robbed a man with three other accomplices of his car and money in Akwa Ibom.

This really heartbreaking, just hope our so-called politicians  will get similar treatment when found guilty of similar offense.

Gen Gowon Assures UNILAG Students on Name Change

                                                   

The name change of the University of Lagos, UNILAG to Moshood Abiola University Lagos, MAULAG which has been generating alot of controversy around the university and beyond has gotten a huge support.

The support is from the former military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon who was at the university for the 2012/2013 session convocation ceremonies. Gen. Gowon assured the students that nobody can change the name of the institution as the name will remain UNILAG. Continue...

EKSU Shut Over Governorship Election

                                                            

The management of Ekiti State University EKSU, Ado Ekiti, has directed the students to vacate campus immediately as the school would be shut down till after the gubernatorial election in Ekiti state.

Students are to spend a three weeks holiday at home after which they will return to the by July. This directive came from the institutions’ Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations and the students are advised to adhere immediately.

KSU Lecturer Admits Being A Member Of Boko Haram

                                 
The Kogi State University, KSU lecturer who was arrested for terrorism by the State Security Service has admitted being a member of the Boko Haram sect. Dr. Muhammed Yunus, confessed that he and his co-accused were planning a Jihad in Igala area of Kogi State before they were arrested.

The lecturer and two other accused persons, Salami Abdullahi (aka Asta) and Musa Umar are facing terrorism charges which includes being in possession of two AK47 rifles and financing terrorism. They were also said to have allegedly attended a meeting convened by the Boko Haram in Ayungba, Kogi State and recruited people for training as members of the sect.

However, the accused is praying the court to strike out the case against them. Justice Kolawole adjourned till June 24 for ruling.

LASU Crisis: Govt Receives Committee Report, May Reduce Fee By 40%

                              

Indication yesterday emerged that Lagos state government might today announce between 30 and 40 percent reduction in the controversial tuition fee of the Lagos State University, LASU that has pitched the students against the government. This came as the government confirmed the receipt of the report of the Executive committee set up by governor Babatunde Fashola to look into all issues surrounding the tuition fee.

The committee it was learnt submitted its findings to the state Executive Council which subsequently, had over five-hour deliberation on it. Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Lateef Ibirogba, who spoke with Vanguard at the end of the weekly Monday Executive Council meeting last night, confirmed that the state government received the committee’s report and deliberated on it before adjourning to today. 4 Kidnapped NYSC Members Rescued In Rivers State

                                           

Four members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), who were kidnapped last Thursday, at Abonnema, headquarters of Akuku-Toru local government area of Rivers State have been rescued. Operatives of the Joint Task Force, JTF rescued the four NYSC members and said no ransom was paid before they were rescued.

Also, speaking with newsmen at Ahoada town, headquarters of Ahoada-East local government area , the commandant of the VGN in Ahoada-East, Mr. Justine Ayah, said nine suspected kidnappers had on May 25, 2014, invaded the residence of late Bob in Ihuaba community at about 3 am and whisked away the two widows, Mrs. Mary and Mrs. Comfort Thompson Bob. Two Covenant Varsity Students Abducted in Abuja

Five gunmen have kidnapped two female students of Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State from their home in Karmo, Abuja on Sunday. The girls, Ejura and Onekwu Opaluwah, were taken away in the booth of a blue Honda car with number plate, HR 152 ABC, in what started off as a robbery incident at 5.00 p.m.

Speaking to Vanguard, an uncle of the missing girls, Mr. Amadi Opaluwah, said: “It was about 5 p.m that evening when five armed men came into the house and went straight to the room of the girls’ father, Mr Samson Opaluwah, an engineer.
